Schuylkill County's link with Dauphin County was the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad. In this photograph one of the railroad's early locomotives, the "Lark" has stopped for a photo opportunity at the East Norwegian and Railroad Streets, Pottsville, in 1866. The Norwegian House on the right opened around 1844, and, under the ownership of James Gough and his wife Hannah, continued until 1867. The Other sign is that of a blacksmith shop, while in the background are the premises of Pomroy & Son, iron manufacturers. Greenwood Hill forms part of the skyline. |
